Monthly car rental in Manila: an expat’s practical checklist

By E-Rentals Manila ·

When you are settling into Manila, a car decision is really a routine decision. Where will you live, where will you work, and how often will you drive? Answer those first. The right monthly rental should fit your week, not just look good outside your building.

Check parking before choosing the car

Ask your condo or hotel about an allocated space, monthly parking charges, access hours and vehicle clearance. Then check parking at work. Two parking bills can change a rental budget more than a small difference in the daily rate.

A compact vehicle may be easier to use for a city routine. More seats are useful if your family travels together, but test the luggage space and access to the rear seats before committing.

Put monthly quotes on the same basis

Ask whether ‘monthly’ means 30 days or a calendar month, when the rental clock starts and what happens if you return early. Request the mileage allowance and excess-kilometre charge in writing.

E-Rentals publishes the daily rate and 30-day equivalent together on its long-term page. Fuel, parking, tolls, delivery and any deposit remain separate unless the booking confirmation says otherwise.

Agree on support during a longer stay

A longer rental needs a maintenance plan. Ask who arranges servicing, how you report a warning light and what happens if the car cannot be used. Do not assume a replacement vehicle or roadside support is included.

  • Service schedule and who pays for routine maintenance
  • Breakdown contact and hours of availability
  • Replacement vehicle terms, if offered
  • Extension notice period and revised rate
  • Return inspection and deposit reconciliation process

Confirm your driving documents early

Your permission to stay in the Philippines and your eligibility to drive are separate matters. Ask the rental provider to check its document requirements before you pay, and verify the licensing rules that apply to your licence and length of stay.

For UK licence holders, UK government travel advice states a 90-day driving allowance and directs longer-stay visitors to apply for a Philippine licence. Do not assume this guidance resolves every nationality or licence situation.
